the power of mushrooms

YES! Online magazine published an article by Paul Stamets titled Mushroom Power in which Mr. Stamets describes his experiments in toxic landscape reclamation using oyster mushrooms to digest toxins in the ground and hasten it's re-inclusion in the web of livingness. This goes to suggest that the reconstruction of damaged environments may be straightforward once engaged with ingenuity. (link to the article)

Once upon a time in a house on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean a lady who was either a psychic medium or a florid schizophrenic once proclaimed before being fully awake for the day; "you tell [name withheld to protect the innocent] that the Earth is a living being and is fully able to heal it's self when the injuring stops... heal people" This might be taken as a caution about seeking to heal aspects of planetary distress as only continuing to impose a limited personal vision of the nature of the planet even if under the banner of ecology; but, nevertheless, one wants to be helpful if possible.

The Institute is moving a collection of good ideas for the quality of life on and of Earth into actionable and responsible stewardship grounded in an integrated experience and understanding of the systems engaged. Primary in this effort is grasp of the Gaia hypothesis and realization of it's mechanisms at work in the surrounding environment. From this grounding we are building agendas working to recover earth in more than one significant way. As this material is cultivated it will be published not only on this page but throughout the website as it also imbues the Institute's work.

"...the ancient precept, know thyself, and the modern precept, study nature, become at last one maxim."
