CIRCLE INSTITUTE'S COUNCIL OF DIRECTORS' REPORT

June 9, 2000

Circle Institute would like to thank the Center for Sustainable Living, in Bloomington, Indiana, for a instance of networking which was instrumental in resolving a situation involving a neighboring business that was burning plastic-containing refuse. Unfortunately, the practice, by households in the county, is common. Our experience indicates the cause to be ignorance of the Indiana State regulations which prohibit the open burning of anything except wood, wood product and yard waste.

Attention has been given to the website (www.circleinstitute.com) recently. And improvements, upgrades and augmentations continue - we apologize for any missing links caused by the upgrades. The site has suffered from animations which took too long to load and other big picture problems. We are moving to a smaller picture format and placing the animations as downloadable AVI files for those who would take the time to see more detail.

The recent information from NASA's NEAR project about the composition of the asteroids has been timely. We have been preparing a report on a theory of the origins of planet Earth, inspired by Zechariah Sitchen's work. We had wondered whether to present this report. However, the discovery of the similarities in composition of the asteroids and the Earth's crust give the theory more substance. Look for it to be posted soon.
