CIRCLE INSTITUTE'S COUNCIL OF DIRECTORS' REPORT

June 29, 2000

When Circle Institute was first conceived we were inspired by the Permaculture Guy's (Bill Mollison's) criteria for a sound design. We present this information here in hopes that it will assist in the construction of a foundation for positive change.

1). Reduction in the need to earn (conservation of food and energy costs).
2). Repair and conservation of degraded landscapes, buildings, soils and species-at-risk.
3). Sustainable product in short-, medium- and long-terms.
4). A unique, preferably essential, service or product for the region.
5). Right livelihood (good work) for occupants in services or goods.
6). Sound and safe legal status for the occupiers.
7). A harmonious and productive landscape without wastes or poisons.
8). A cooperative and information-rich part of a regional society.

Circle Institute is dedicated to an implementation of these criteria at our facility on Showers Road.

We are progressing in the construction of an outdoor presentation area in which two tiers of retaining walls form a semi-circle around a table and bench. This area is connected directly through the south slope garden to a raised circular area which is used for group meditations. This second area is surmounted by an icosahedron structure on which we are training a variety of grapevines and which is surrounded by fruit trees, planted last year. Most of our attention recently has been focused on these two areas as we hope to be able to offer their use to people with presentations aligned with planetary and personal healing.
